Summer vacation should feel relaxing, not stressful. Whether you are heading up north, taking the family to the lake, flying out of Detroit Metro, or spending a long weekend away, your home should be secure before you leave.

Most homeowners remember to lock the front door, pause the mail, and set a few lights on timers. But there are a few doors that deserve a closer look before you pull out of the driveway.
Here are four doors to check before your next trip.
1. The front entry door
Your front door is the first place to start. Make sure it closes tightly, locks fully, and does not have visible gaps around the frame. If your deadbolt does not line up properly or the door feels loose, it may not be as secure as it should be.
An older entry door can also hurt your home’s curb appeal and energy efficiency. If it is warped, cracked, or difficult to lock, replacement may be worth considering.
2. The back door
Back doors are easy to overlook because they are not always visible from the street. That also makes them important from a security standpoint.
Check the lock, frame, hinges, and weatherstripping. If the door feels soft, damaged, or easy to push against, it may be time for an upgrade.
3. The patio or sliding glass door
Sliding doors are one of the most common weak spots in a home. Before leaving for vacation, make sure your patio door locks securely and cannot be lifted out of its track. If the track is damaged, the lock is unreliable, or the glass is outdated, it may be time to replace it with a safer, more efficient option.
4. The garage entry door
Many homeowners secure the overhead garage door but forget about the door between the garage and the house. This interior entry door should be strong, properly fitted, and lockable.
If someone were to access the garage, this door becomes a critical second layer of protection.
A safer home starts with strong, reliable doors
Doors do more than welcome people in. They protect your family, belongings, and peace of mind.
If your exterior doors are old, damaged, hard to lock, or simply not giving you confidence, Home & Door can help you replace them with beautiful, secure options that fit your home.
